Re: Men into Space |
Okay, At risk of being widely hated I need to be a voice of reason. IF there is no doubt that those shows are copyrited please dont upload them. I understand the it wont hurt thought but it places everyones work to build a collection of pd materials in jeopardy. IA is nice enough to have us here we need to play by their terms.
( please dont hate me Sir Bob.)

Re: Men into Space |
Lum is right
I should not upload anymore of these shows because of this
I love the IA and I would not want bring any bad JU JU into play. when I started uploading the Men into Space shows I thought for sure the show was PD, as it turns out I was wrong. So from now on I am going to check for sure before I upload anymore things.
I am sorry to all the Men into Space fans, you should be able to find the show on DVD on Ebay and other online stores.
I am sorry

Re: Men into Space |
While I understand that it is important to be careful, wonder what is Ziv's track record as far as getting stuff taken down over copyrights? I know for some clips the uploading of them is like asking for trouble, such as clips from Dick Clark Productions, Peanuts, and of course Disney. But with ZIV, I never heard of them doing the nasty and requesting that their stuff being taken off. Of course I cant say for sure that they will/will not do this.
I undersatnd its best to be safe than sorry.

Wow, you actually let those sniveling belly button sniffers bully you into taking down Men Into Space.
There's a word for that, and in another use it ends in "willow."
wow, man, you used to be cool.

Re: Men into Space |
buttmunch, a simple question in 2 parts. Ready? 1. Do you use Internet Archives often? 2. Would you feel sad if it was gone? If your answers to both questions were yes then you have an idea about IA. It's a site that deals with public domain. If an upload is in question, then for the safety of the interns work at I.A. and the interest as well as safety,of the users; it is removed. If the aforementioned upload is without copyright infringement, then the uploader is asked if or she wishes to upload it again. Understand?

Big talk from a little person, like most of the bunkhouse attorney horse manure floating around here from all these PD 'experts.' This was a nice place until you all showed up.

Re: Men into Space |
Don't exactly see where you are coming from here. I've been using IA for more than 5 years. It has always worked the same. Public Domain Only. There is no place here for copyright material unless it is uploaded by the copyright owner.
The shows don't belong on Internet Archive because they are still protected by copyright. Keeping them posted here is dangerous whether or not it seems like they are orphaned works. This is especially so because these TV episodes are owned by a large souless corporation - MGM. Large companies like this see little or no value in what IA does or stands for.
IA (and individual uploaders/dowloaders) can be subject to expensive legal action even after complying with a take down order. It is a simple question of risk and gain. The risk is we all lose IA. The gain is you get free copyright TV programs. I'm sorry, but the risk is greater than the gain.
If you want access to unavailable copyright programs you should look to bootleggers, torrent sites and P2P at your own risk and not expect people and organisations who are trying to remain credible and lawful to supply it for you.

Buttmunch;
You are a good name to go with your personality. The present definition (meaning or usage) in Webster's dictionary is; "one who is slow witted, not able to grasp cognitive skills, and lacks common sense". That does fit you perfectly.

Re: Men into Space |
The Urban Dictionary has some great definitions of
"Buttmunch"However, they do leave out the literal verb form "to buttmunch" as in "He vigorously buttmunched his way to the top." But that may not have caught on in the US yet.
Buttmunch could also have originated from the slightly-less-than-well-known English family of
Buttmunch who, after settling in Middlesex, settled on the pithy motto "They Are Able Because They Seem To Be." So they never looked too far below the surface.

Hiya J B, I too have made upload errors so I know a simple search of LOC can be confusing to say the least. I Have read that almost the entire ZIV collection is still copyrighted. Lots of it can be purchased at mostly reasonable prices.
Thanks Everyone for not flaming me.

Re: Men into Space |
Worth reposting, I think: I was thrilled by what I saw posted - and isn't a drag how people OWN things? Hasn't the Internet taught us that paying for things is for chumps? I'm ordering the 10-DVD, 38-episode set. 30 bucks; 25 if you don't need the cases. I did a web search and found them at vintagetvandmore.com. Now, THEY claim the series is PD. Public domain is SUCH a can-o-worms. A film is public domain, or it isn't, or it is but the MUSIC isn't. I just finished a documentary film and Golly, rights and royalties are SO open to interpretation. A recorded performance of classical music might be old enough to be PD but the musical work being performed might NOT be, even after 120 years. YARG!

Here's something to make you grind your teeth: season 1 of Star Trek is P.D. BUT the music, costumes, set design, and character are still copyrighted owned by Paramount; reason, they still making MONEY off it and so they will not release it. BUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMER!

Re: Men into Space |
The theme music is copyright. But the other elements (set design, cahracters and costumes) are protected by trademarks. This is a roundabout way of prolonging (or reclaiming) copyright in works. Trademarks can be perpetual as long as the owner keeps using them and the US is one of the few countries that extends trademark protection to purely non-commercial uses. This effects fan created works, as well, even if they fall into the realm of parody.
